David M. Davis represents Southern Metropolitan Region in the Legislative Council of the Parliament of Victoria.

In January 2008, he was elected to the position of Leader of the Liberal Party in the Legislative Council.

He is Chair of the Select Committee on Public Land Development and Deputy Chair of the Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee.

In February 2008, Mr Davis was appointed Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change and continued in his position as Shadow Minister Responsible for Scrutiny of Gavernment.

Between August 2007 and February 2008, Mr Davis was Shadow Minister for Industry and State Development, Shadow Minister for Major Projects and Shadow Minister responsible for Scrutiny of Government.

From November 2006 to August 2007, Mr Davis was Shadow Minister for Industry and State Development, Shadow Minister for Major Projects and Shadow Minister for Small Business. From February 2007 to August 2007 he was also responsible for the portfolios of Manufacturing and Exports.

In the previous Parliament, from December 2002 until December 2005, he was Shadow Minister for Health. In December 2005 he was appointed to the position of Shadow Minister for Environment and in May 2006 was given additional responsibility as Shadow Minister for Planning.

Prior to that, Mr Davis held the position of Shadow Minister for Scrutiny of Government. This role involved examining the Government's spending priorities for signs of waste, duplication and unnecessary expenditure. It involved holding the Government accountable in terms of financial probity and keeping its promises. He was also Chairperson of the Opposition’s Parliamentary Treasury and Finance Committee.

Mr Davis was first elected as the Member for East Yarra Province in March 1996 and re-elected in 2002. In November 2006, he was elected as senior Liberal Party parliamentary representative of Southern Metropolitan Region. Southern Metropolitan Region covers the Legislative Assembly districts of Albert Park, Bentleigh, Brighton, Burwood, Caulfield, Hawthorn, Kew, Malvern, Oakleigh, Prahran and Sandringham.

Mr Davis’ academic background includes a Bachelor of Applied Science, a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Arts (Applied Philosophy).

From 1984 until 1996 Mr Davis was in private practice as a chiropractor.

Mr Davis was Chair of the Central Western Regional Council of Adult, Community and Further Education before being elected to Parliament.

Mr Davis was also a member of the Board of the Box Hill Institute of Technical and Further Education from 1997 until 2000.

Mr Davis has been a member of the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee, the Law Reform Committee and the Family and Community Development Committee of the Victorian Parliament.
